Red Sonja to be played by Rose McGowan

News has it that Robert Rodriguez will be producing the Red Sonja remake. And his girlfriend, Rose McGowan will be playing the titular lead.

I’m not a big fan of Rose McGowan – but having seen her in both Grindhouse movies, especially in Planet Terror, she does have the spunk and ability to play over-the-top roles. With the iconic Red Sonja – aside from the flaming red hair and swordplay, which are both superficial elements – Rose McGowan can probably easily slip into the role. Hmm, wait and see – though we’ve already seen how her boyfriend (Rodriguez) lovingly directed her in Grindhouse – and it turned out pretty well, pulp-movie-wise.

Though this Red Sonja version is more closely tied-in with the comics by Dynamite Entertainment and not a sequel to the Briget Nielsen red mullet original, let’s hope they all pull it off.

Next up, somebody convince somebody for a new Conan movie!

Red Sonja starts shooting this October and is slated for a 2009 release, to be directed by Douglas Aarniokoski (Highlander: Endgame).

He MASTERFULLY thinks his physique can improve once he just stops SPECTACULARLY daydreaming about it. He's also known to be able to break your concentration FANTASTICALLY. ViolentDream has had INCREDIBLY diverse experiences - from journalistic writing, graphic design, editorial cartooning, CAD and 3D design and animation, product and project management. He's now UNCANNILY busy catching up with video-gaming, action figure modding, and the Mixed Martial Arts scene. Oh, and he's really not into comics. Bah.
