Only in Japan!

A man in Japan recently put up an online petition seeking to get a million signatures to get the Japanese government to allow a Human to marry a fictional comic book character.
Go figure!
Manga fans have always been stereotypically cast as extremely passionate about their love for the genre, often going as far as going about their daily routine dressed up as their favorite characters, but Taichi Takashita has gone way beyond fandom to straight up weirdness.
“I am no longer interested in three dimensions. I would even like to become a resident of the two-dimensional world,” he wrote.
“However, that seems impossible with present-day technology. Therefore, at the very least, would it be possible to legally authorize marriage with a two-dimensional character?”
Within a week of putting up the online petition, Takashita has already gathered more than a thousand signatures, attracting people of equal weirdness who say things like “For a long time I have only been able to fall in love with two-dimensional people and currently I have someone I really love.” and “Even if she is fictional, it is still loving someone. I would like to have legal approval for this system at any cost.”
Japan doesn’t even recognize same sex marriage so I figure they’ll have a hard time pulling this off.
But hey, it’s Japan! Anything can happen.
