Interview with The Fuhrer

June 21, 2008

We decided to talk with one of the co-founders of geekzkrieg.com, the Fuhrer. In this interview, he talks about the origins of the name, the idea behind the web magazine/blog and the group’s plans for the future.

Q: Tell us the idea behind Geekzkrieg. Why did you guys decide to put it up?

Well, to be honest, this blog slash web-magazine was born out of the constant chats between me and my friends, ViolentDream and Daemonfrost. On coffee breaks or when we do get together, we would talk about all the stupid and “dorky” stuff that we stumble upon the internet - whether it be new games, the latest info on tech or sexy babes, these were all great “coffee conversations”. Of course, we’d get the lowdown on these topics from various blogs and sites all across the web. One day, we all told ourselves “Hey, wouldn’t it be good if there was one place on the web where geeks like us could get all the juicy stuff?” It sounded like a swell idea. A few weeks later, we were buying the geekzkrieg.com URL.

Q: Why the name Geekzkrieg?

That idea came from one of our brainstorming sessions. It was actually Daemonfrost’s idea. I liked the sound of it, sorta like a nazi-dorky feel to it. So there you go, “Geekzkrieg” was born.

Q: Tell us about the group. Are there just 3 writers?

As of now, yes. But we do plan to open the blog to the community. Anyone can contribute. That’s one of the goals of the webmag, to make it BY the community and FOR the community. We’re certain that there a lot of like-minded individuals out there (like us) and we don’t want just our opinions to be heard. Besides, for those who love to write and express themselves, geekskrieg can be a good outlet to let your thoughts be heard.

As for the group, the 3 of us have various fields of “expertise” but we don’t claim to have the final say on any topic, post or article. I assigned topics for each editor. For example, since ViolentDream is the uber-dork when it comes to comics - that section is his. Our “triumvirate” is simply based on good friendship and the passion for the things we love and do  – for me, that’s the most important part. Success will come naturally if you truly love what you’re doing.

Q. What are your plans for Geekzkrieg.com’s future?

One of the things that we’re working on right now is to open the contributions to our readers. I really want it to be a real online web magazine with contributors from all across the globe. The vision is for geezkrieg.com to be international. Other products and services in the pipeline include a “geek store”, online and SNS events for all our readers and a virtual community home – perhaps a forum, in the coming months.

I’m also currently tapping potential partners to sponsor blog contests and raffles. Right now, we’re working on basic traffic building. We haven’t launched formally yet, but the goal is to let companies who sell products for our market can have a great platform for them to “spread the word”, so to speak.

Q. What’s the difference between geekzkrieg from the other “geek blogs” or sites out there?

I did some homework. Most of the geek sites focus too much on technology and “advanced” tech mumbo-jumbo. Sure there are uber-geeks who love that kind of stuff but there are also some of us who want the bits and pieces not found on those kinds of sites, you know – movies, games, and yes, even babes. Hence, you can see the “format” of geekzkrieg, right? And the goal is to cater to this certain niche group – which we know is huge.

Q. Why the name “Fuhrer”?

Why not? It has a nice ring to it. Besides, what better way to spread the geekzkrieg revolution than to be the leader, and that’s the German translation for it. Oh btw, we ARE NOT neo-nazis. I just want to make that clear.

Thanks for your time, sir. Good luck to you and the Geekzkrieg crew!
