Microsoft partners with Local Organization and teaches old people to surf.
I was recently invited by an office friend to attend a simple anniversary celebration of celebration of TULAY, a project in cooperation with the OWWA (Overseas Welfare Welfare Administration), Microsoft, and the Blas F. Ople Policy Center.
The project started in 2004 and offers computer literacy courses to dependents of overseas workers.
You might be asking yourself “ok, but that’s taught at the schools anyway, what’s the big deal?” well, one of their “students” is an 80 year old female who now has her own Facebook profile and enjoys the full potential of the internet.
Not porn you sick pervs, information and communication!
Buhay Tan is the oldest graduate of the program at 80 years of age. Buhay said that her age did not stop her from gaining computer knowledge. “I want to learn more and more that is why I still go to the Tulay center every Friday so my teacher can help me practice.” Mrs. Tan has nine children, all degree-holders, with some of them working in different countries. “I want to communicate with them that is why I enrolled in the Tulay program.”
Projects like this really show that the internet can really change our lives and those of our families.
And that yes…the internet is not only for porn.
