Google Phone To Cost $199

September 21, 2008

Will this phone from Internet giant Google be able to topple Steve Jobs’ iPhone? iWould want to think so.

A couple of days back, Reuters quoted the Wall Street Journal that “The first mobile phone to use Google Inc’s Android mobile operating software will cost $199, the Wall Street Journal reported on its website on Wednesday.”

The Google phone, otherwise known as the HTC dream, is equipped with a touchscreen with a slide-out keyboard, the device will run on the company’s open source Android platform, which Google hopes to have users enjoy a better online experience than iPhone.

AT&T Inc, the only U.S. operator selling Apple Inc’s iPhone, set the price of the latest version at $199 in July, setting a benchmark for smartphones that can surf the Web, manage email and other multimedia features.

The phone is being manufactured in Taiwan and will be set for an official release this month.
