Aion Beta Breaks Korean Records
November 16, 2008
The beta testing for new MMORPG Aion Online last week broke all Korea OBT records. On last report, there were around 170,000 players in the first couple of days alone.
Aion is scheduled to launch in Korea within the year, and launches in China, North America, Europe and Japan are planned for 2009.
Since Tuesday’s (November 12) launch of open beta testing in Korea, concurrent user (CCU) numbers have already jumped to more than 170,000 players, making it the most popular beta event in Korean history. According to NCsoft officials, more than 11,000 people were logged into the game after only two minutes of open beta service. In less than an hour, that number had ballooned to 40,000. Currently the number of concurrent players has leapt up to more than 170,000.
To meet the unprecedented demand by gamers, NCsoft rapidly expanded to 25 servers over the first few hours of opening the beta. Even with the increased number of servers, tens of thousands of people were waiting to enter the game.
Meanwhile, here are screenshots of the game:

Whoa! Aion is NCSoft’s saving grace after Tabula Rasa’s Garriot leaving and it’s 50% drop in profits last 3rd quarter.
Know anyone who will bring this to the Phils?
Dude! I don’t think the Philippines is ready for a game like this yet. The Philippine online gaming market is composed of I-Cafe players and unfortunately, there are only a handful of I-Cafes that will be able to handle this game’s graphics.
No I-Cafe = no money for publisher.
another thing, this game requires bandwidth that is more than twice what we curently have in the Philippines.
i hope there’s an international version that i can play though, because from what I’ve seen, this game kicks WoW’s ass big time. It makes WoW look like a kids game.
and I’m a WoW fanboy!

Agree with Hoobastanker. It would not be a good idea to get this game for the Philippines because of the bandwith and graphics (PC) requirements. But, who knows?
Let’s see… Thanks for your comments
Don’t agree with hoobastanker, High-end PC’s can be bought for a lot cheaper these days, the Philippines I-cafes don’t have a choice but to upgrade their rigs, due to the fact that the next gen gaming has come, if we don’t want to be left behind we need to suck it up or forever be binding by low-end rigs. The bandwidth capacity of our country can make it up, business (on the company level) is very different from just a I-cafe so their servers can pretty much host it, you don’t need a lot of bandwidth to play next gen games, its true they take more than usual bandwidth but not much, remember all they need are data packets, the graphics doesn’t affect that in anyway. I for one have played in the Korean OBT and found it as a casual gaming connection, also remember that if the servers where hosted in the Philippines the latency wouldn’t be a problem anymore and it would bring smooth gaming to the players.
